Intelligent INTELLO Membrane
for Moisture Control

The pro clima airtightness system prevents uncontrolled air infiltration or leakage through the building envelope, and assists the drying capacity of the building through its unique moisture control properties.

What is the Intelligent part of INTELLO?

In 1994 Lothar Moll, world leading building physicist and expert on airtightness systems, discovered the moisture vapour transmission rate (MVTR) variable membrane, the Intelligent part of INTELLO which became part of the patented pro clima Intelligent Airtightness System (IAS).

What is the difference between Intelligent INTELLO and conventional vapour barriers?

The difference is that the INTELLO membranes become more vapour ‘diffusion open’ when required. This means they have the ability to alter their diffusion resistance depending on the average relative humidity surrounding the vapour check, thus ensuring that interstitial condensation risk is minimised.  Interstitial condensation can cause structural damage as well as mould, rot and damp in the building envelope.

Why is an Intelligent airtightness system necessary for New Zealand?

New Zealand is influenced by a temperate maritime climate – there aren’t the same seasonal extremes of temperatures as some countries – however most parts of the country have damp and/or humid conditions throughout the year.

Therefore it is important to:
  • protect structures from internally driven moisture
  • allow structural drying to the inside
This is possible because the INTELLO membrane offers high diffusion tightness and maximum diffusion openness depending on temperature and humidity.
