First Light House

The team has done it - 3rd in the Solar Decathlon 2011!!

The Victoria University students with their energy efficient, sustainable kiwi bach scored exceptionally well in two significant categories - 1st in Engineering and 2nd in Architecture helping them along to overall success.

pro clima has been proud to donate products for this amazing project which was accepted as New Zealand's entry for the finals of the US Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon 2011.

The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon is an international competition that challenges 20 collegiate teams to design, build, and operate the most attractive, effective, and energy-efficient solar-powered house. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production.

New Zealand's entry, the work of students at Victoria University, was only one of four international countries to be accepted this year and the only entry ever from the southern hemisphere.  pro clima's  contribution to the project was recognised in a letter recently received from Victoria University.

In the 18 days that the house was open to the public at Wellington's Frank Kitts Park in May, around 20,000 visitors enjoyed guided tours by the students.

The house was dismantled and left New Zealand on 17th June for Washington DC and the competition which ran from 13 September to October 7th.
